The Gardening Grangers

Introducing THE GARDENING GRANGERS

Hello, my name is Mickey Peacock and I am very excited to be joining the team here at the Grange Academy and bringing my love and excitement for growing food and connecting with nature to the students with a hands on approach.

I am a passionate gardener and educator with over a decade’s experience in the field. I am excited to teach the students practical and usable skills that will help them connect more to the earth around them and also to themselves.

So what will they be learning?

  • How to create an allotment space and which key ingredients and skills are needed to do so.
  • How to plant and nurture seeds into strong plants which will then produce healthy, organic produce to enjoy.
  • Students will learn how to care for their plants and enjoy the experience of seeing their efforts pay off at harvest time.
  • Students will learn what to do with their produce and how to make nutritious meals from what they have grown.
  • They will learn about the growing cycle and also the importance of bees and insects in the pollination of these plants and how we can create an environment that works in harmony with nature.
  • They will be learning about making use of nature’s Freebees and foraging.
  • Students will learn about gardening in a sustainable way. They will be using recycled materials and also making the most of what we can find, gather and salvage to create an eco friendly garden.
  • I am also excited to teach the students how to make content for online platforms that will enable them to share their new found knowledge. This will also include developing communication skills, photography, filmmaking, planning and confidence to share what they know.

I am very excited to start this new adventure with the students at Grange Academy and look forward to seeing them develop a love for healthy food, nature and the world around them.
