Sponsor a Child
Many children in our world do not have access to their UNICEF rights and don’t have food, clean water, shelter health care or education. They experience war and violence so often feel unsafe.
At Grange our ‘Pupil Curriculum leaders’ have decided we should sponsor a child. By sponsoring a child, we can pay monthly so they can go to a safe project. This will give their families a place to live, health care and school. It will protect them from violence and make sure they get enough food and clean water.
Our ‘Pupil Curriculum leaders’ have decided that each class needs to raise money once per year to take turns to help fund this. Your class can choose what you do but each class needs to raise £32. We can do this!
First, we need to decide which country to help. We have chosen a child in Tanzania.
Tanzania is a country in Africa where half the population are under 18. Many children do not have adults to care for them. There is some extreme poverty. It has beautiful mountains, including Mount Kilimanjaro and active volcanos. It has huge lakes, rivers and lots of giraffes, rhinos and elephants.
Many children have no access to education or health care. There is a lot of violence towards children and women. Many children are sexually exploited. A high number of children live on the streets. 4.2 million Tanzanian children are working, many in dangerous gold mines which can poison them.
Sponsoring a child here will protect them from violence and allow them to go to school, not work, and get health care, food and water.
Dorcas
Pupils have now chosen which child we are sponsoring in Tanzania.
They have decided to support Dorcas. She is 10 and lives in the mountains in Tanzania. She has three sisters and loves drawing. Her family are all farmers.
Naomi and Chibunna chose to help her because living in the mountains will be hard, and she lives with her family in a mud house.
